Daven Allard a 14-year-old Kingston resident got a thrill of a lifetime. Daven recently returned from a weeklong trip to The USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC. There, he competed in the NTIS (National Team Identification Series) "Champions Cup." The Champions Cup is USA Baseball's most comprehensive player identification event to identify future national team players. After several try-outs and hundreds of players, Daven was (1) of (4) players in New England selected to represent the 14U "Northeast Stars" and compete in the 2019 Champions Cup, August 13-18. The Champions Cup consists of 160 - top USA players that will compete in their home region for a gold medal. Players showcased their talents though evaluated testing, skills sections, and game play all in hopes of making a national team for next summer. Daven states, "even through we didn't win the Champions Cup, it was still an amazing opportunity to showcase our skills in front of dozens of national team and college scouts." Daven got a chance to pitch, play first, and bat on the well-groomed fields of the National Training Complex, a dream come true for Daven. Daven will be notified in the next couple of weeks if he'll advance and train with a national team next summer. Either way, Daven was honored/proud to wear the NTIS Jersey with the letters USA printed across the front of it.
