HAVERHILL, MA – YWCA Haverhill is pleased to announce that Rev. Liz Walker, Honorary Chair of the Tribute to Women, will be the keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Tribute to Women Luncheon on Wed., May 28, at DiBurro’s, in Ward Hill.
Rev. Liz is an ordained minister, a television journalist, a documentary film producer and a humanitarian. In the summer of 2001, she traveled to war-torn Sudan on a fact-finding mission on the controversial slave trade in southern Sudan. She was so outraged by the human rights atrocities in Sudan she co-founded My Sister’s Keeper, a grass roots initiative that advocates for women and children, who are trying to rebuild their country and their lives.
As the first African American woman to anchor a prime time weeknight newscast, a position that she held for 21 years, Liz was the recipient of two Emmys, an Edward R. Murrow Award and special recognition from the prestigious Gabriel Awards for her on-air and documentary work.
The Tribute to Women luncheon is the YWCA’s major fundraiser. Proceeds from the event help underwrite the growth and development of programs at the YWCA. Guest reservations are $50.00. For sponsorship, advertising and ticket, information, contact Renee McGuire at 978.374.6121.
