PLAISTOW – The Plaistow Fire Department has been awarded and accepted a competitive grant from the Department of Homeland Security-Federal Emergency Management Agency for $18,918. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic created a tremendous impact on the Plaistow Fire Department’s operating budget for this calendar year. Large quantities of specialized equipment are required to protect our first responders from contracting Coronavirus. These necessary purchases place an excessive burden on our taxpayers, therefore, qualifying the town for federal grant funding. The CARES Act authorized $100 million for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) and related supplies for our nation’s first responders.
This grant funding opportunity will be used to reimburse the town on previously purchased personal protective equipment and provide funds for future sustainability. The local share will only require a 5% match. Therefore, the local community taxpayers will be relieved of this unpredicted and unprecedented cost associated with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
The following items will be purchased using these grant funds:
1. Surgical Disposable Face Masks
2. N-95 Respirators
3. Half Facepiece Respirators with P100 Filters
4. 40mm Adapters for SCOTT SCBA with P100 Filters
5. Nitrile Exam Gloves
6. Disposable Isolation Gowns
7. 360o Protective Coveralls
8. OSHA Approved Sealed Goggles
The Plaistow Fire Department, on behalf of the town, would like to thank the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump, and FEMA for this financial support opportunity.
