HAMPSTEAD - A chess club for children who are educated at home meets at the Hampstead Public Library on the fourth Monday afternoon of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.; however, in May, the club will meet on the third Monday, May 19. Demonstrations and lessons are provided each month. This is open to any age student (or parent!) and any level of experience: from beginner to expert. A few chess sets will be provided but bring your own if you have one. If you don’t have your own chess set, don’t let that stop you; come play anyway!

STORYTIME - Storytime for 3 to 5 year olds at the Hampstead Public Library has its last sessions of the season on Mon., May 19, at 10:00 a.m., and Thurs., May 22, at 1:30 p.m. There will be a break for a few weeks, and then the library will have special Storytime sessions on Friday mornings during the Summer Reading Program. Mother Goose on the Loose Storytime for infants and children to age 2 (with a caregiver) will continue as usual on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. No advance sign up is necessary.

AARP MEDICARE FRAUD PRESENTATION - To help senior citizens and their families better understand Medicare fraud, AARP New Hampshire volunteers are conducting a free program at the Library on Tues., May 20, at 7:00 p.m. This program will address issues such as: how you can spot Medicare scams, what is medical identity theft and how can you avoid it. Further resources will be provided. Register for this program by calling the library, 603-329-6411, or emailing jarden@hampsteadlibrary.org.

FREE COMPUTER TUTORING - The Library offers free computer tutoring on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Call the library in advance to book a 30-minute one-to-one appointment. We can help with Facebook, email, eBooks, digital cameras, and many other topics. You can bring your own laptop, phone, or tablet device, or use the library’s desktop computer. We also recommend you bring any applicable email addresses and passwords when you come, so we can make the most of our time.

NEW ART EXHIBIT - Londonderry artist Joanne Beausoleil is exhibiting her paintings at the Hampstead Public Library now through the end of June. Joanne completed a BFA program at the NH Institute of Art. She is a member of the NH Plein Air group. Her primary focus is landscape painting. Most Plein Air pieces are relatively small, but Joanne enjoys the task of getting information down quickly on larger canvases, using painting knives and rags to deliver large chunks of paint to the surface. Come view Joanne’s artwork in the second floor meeting room of the Hampstead Library, and visit her website http://beausoleilart.com.
