EXETER – Mark your calendar for the next “Lottery Day” exhibit at the Exeter Town Hall Offices at 10 Front Street on Sat., January 12, at 10:00 a.m. sharp! This non-juried exhibit is organized by The Exeter Arts Committee, a group of volunteers appointed by the Exeter Board of Selectmen. It is free and open to all artists of any ability and medium.

The concept is simple and easy. All artists who wish to exhibit are awarded space in the exhibit area by virtue of a random drawing. The drawing determines the order in which artists may choose the actual spot on the walls where they’d like their work to be displayed. “Lottery Day” is nothing more than all the participants getting together, drawing numbers from a hat, and dividing up the gallery space among the participants.

To enter and/or retrieve currently hanging work, arrive at 10:00 a.m. sharp. Be sure and bring two original pieces of art to the Lottery Day. (No reproductions, prints, or giclees, please. Photography is welcome. We have a glass case for pottery and three dimensional works.) All hanging work must have a frame or finished edges, a hanging wire, and your name, title, and telephone # on the back. It usually takes 60 minutes or so for everyone to draw for a space, make labels, and hang the pieces. The Association will always hang at least one piece of your art, and possibly both, depending upon available space. Pieces can be for sale or not. Any sales are handled directly by the artist and the buyer, not by the committee or the town. The hours for viewing the art by the public are business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Each current show concludes on the next Lottery Day, which is also when you must retrieve the artwork you have on exhibit. Be sure and mark your calendars with all the dates. Upcoming Lottery Days for 2008 are January 12, May 17, and September 13. For more information go to http://exeterarts.home.comcast.net. Join Them!
