PORTSMOUTH —“It’s spring, and we’re Climbin’ Higher Mountains ready to sing!” says Voices from the Heart director, Joanne Connolly. Voices from the Heart, Portsmouth’s world music women’s chorus, is excited to present their spring concert, “Climbin’ Higher Mountains” on Saturday, June 10 at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. at South Church, 292 State Street in Portsmouth.

“We will be raising the roof with uplifting, engaging, fun and poignant songs from many traditions… American gospel, Scotland, Spain, Turkey, a GREAT Aretha Franklin tune, and a few beautiful Mamuse songs! We’ll have Matt Jenson and trio on the keys, bass and percussion.

Just a few months ago the world was rocked with the news of the devastating earthquakes in Tukey and Syria. “We wanted to reach out in song, “ says Connolly, “and will be singing the Turkish song ‘Adana’ accompanied by our own world drummers. Also we will be singing the gorgeous ‘First Light’ dedicated to the victims and survivors of that natural disaster.”

Be there to celebrate a world of music with Voices, sure to uplift and move the audience to dancing rhythms, and soulful sounds! Tickets are on sale at www.eventbrite.com/e/climbin-higher-mountains-tickets-632674485417 and in person at N.H. Made at 22 Deer Street in Portsmouth. Tickets are $20.
