People’s Choice Winner at Mystery Kits Show

EXETER — Kim Cooper has won this year’s People’s Choice award at the annual Mystery Kits exhibit at the Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter for her “The Greater Washer-Eyed Pine Owl”, voted on visitors to the gallery.

These kits, with identical items, are sold each June and the contestants have the summer to make their creations for the October exhibit. The proceeds go the SAA Scholarship Fund.

Kim says, “”I was happy to participate in the Mystery Kit Project to help support the SAA Scholarship program. Each year, area high school seniors looking to further their education in the arts may apply to be awarded this SAA scholarship. I strongly believe in the importance of art education and am more than happy to donate my work to this cause. I tried to incorporate as many items as possible including washers as eyes, a plastic spoon for the beak, foam board, and unwinding the pipe cleaners to use the fluff as feathers. It was fun and challenging to figure out ways to transform each of the supplies. It was definitely outside of my comfort zone to add a plastic spoon to a painting, but fun nonetheless!”

Kim wins a $25.00 gift certificate to Water Street Bookstore in Exeter. Stop in to see the show, which goes for the rest of October, and leave off your name to enter the raffle for Tom Plummer and Ruth Wallingford’s charming and timely Mystery Kit piece, “Jabby the Cat Plays Safe”. The winner will be announced on Sat., October 30.

The SAA’s next theme show for Nov-Dec is “Big Gifts Come in Small Packages” and drop off is Oct 30, 10-3. Rules and applications are at seacoastartist.org. The gallery is open Wed.-Sat., 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sun., 1:00-4:00 p.m.
