HAMPSTEAD — Come and relax at the Hampstead Public Library with an enriching Chair Yoga Class on Tues., December 3 at 3:00 p.m. The class is a wonderful way to learn strengthening and relaxing techniques to help you through the holiday season and any time. The instructor is Maggie Grace from the Yoga Room in Hampstead. All are welcome to this free class.

The Nonfiction Book Club is reading “The Great Quake: How the Biggest Earthquake in North America Changed our Understanding of the Planet” by Henry Fountain. Books are available to borrow and all readers are welcome to the discussion on Tues., December 3 at 1:00 p.m. This book is a riveting narrative about the 1964 Alaskan earthquake, which measured 9.2 on the Richter scale. It devastated coastal towns and villages, killing more than 130 people. The author also writes about the geologist who investigated the aftermath and confirmed the theory of plate tectonics.

On Wed., December 4 at 6:00 p.m., students in grades five to eight compete in Cupcake Wars. Advance registration is required. Participants design and decorate a cupcake based on a mystery theme. Then the competitors become the judges and vote for their favorites. Sign-up via the Events Calendar on www.HampsteadLibrary.org.

The Hampstead Public Library has a Google Slides Class on Wed., December 18 at 2:00 p.m. Please register in advance via the Event Calendar on www.HampsteadLibrary.org. Google Slides is a free cloud-based program good for presentations and slideshows. It offers easy collaboration, publishing, and sharing options. Librarian Michelle teaches you the basics to get started with this handy tool. Topics covered include creating a presentation, adding slides, autosave, running the presentation, print preview, and more. The Library supplies computers for class participants to use. This class is free and open to the public. Participants should have a Google account to access Slides. If you need help setting up a Google account, please visit the library prior to the class and ask for assistance.

Preschoolers and their caregivers have plenty to do at the Hampstead Public Library. Mother Goose Rhyme Time classes are on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. This fun-filled interactive half-hour class is ideal for infants to age two with a caregiver. It helps stimulate the learning process with stories, songs, and rhymes. On Thursdays at 11:00 a.m., one to five-year-old children and caregivers have a blast with Music & Movement class. This lively half-hour class helps children explore movement with songs, dances, and playing with instruments. It’s a great way to support the development of body and mind. On Fridays at 10:00 a.m., it’s Storytime for three to five-year-old children. Sing songs, listen to Miss Devin read wonderful books, and then the children get to do a craft. Parents can register to receive a Storytime newsletter which discusses what children will learn each week, and it gives advice about activities for continued learning at home. Go to the Storytime listing on the Events Calendar to sign-up for the newsletter. All of these events for young children do not require registration; drop-in and join the fun. The Library Children’s Room also has books, puzzles, trains, blocks, art supplies, puppets, and more available for learning and amusement. It is always open when families visit.
