EPPING — The new library addition is finished and we are now open! We are so grateful to the community for supporting the library and being so patient during the construction process. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the library’s reopening reception! A special thank you goes to Charlie Goodspeed who oversaw the entire project and put in an incredible amount of time and effort to bring the town a beautiful new library. We’re glad to be back!
Help your kids develop learning skills to become more self-reliant and confident in a changing world at our Helpful Hints Parenting Talk. Parents of elementary school-aged children and younger are invited to learn tips about how to advance children's skills in math, understanding money, and to protect them from inappropriate marketing. The discussion will be led by Kathy Stoughton, M. Ed, who has over ten years and 10,000 hours of experience helping students grow their brains' capabilities, with a special focus on life skills involving math. She designed the successful children's program held at the library last summer, "It's Money, Honey." Join us for a cup of tea or hot chocolate and enjoy the free helpful information that can make a positive difference in your children's lives on Sat., January 18 at 11:00 a.m.
We’ll begin our winter concert series with Guitar in Spain and Latin America: Concert with José Lezcano on Sat., January 25 at 3:00 p.m. Dr. José Lezcano presents a variety of musical styles that illustrate the history of the guitar in Spain and Latin America, including songs with the exciting strummed rhythms of popular 17th-century dances; transcriptions of Baroque keyboard sonatas; nationalist Spanish works composed for the legendary Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia; music of the Argentine Gauchos; the Venezuelan parlor waltz; Cuban popular dances like the Cha-cha-cha and Bolero; and the Avant-garde and Neo-romantic expressions. Cuban-born musician Dr. José Manuel Lezcano is a twice Grammy-nominated composer and guitarist whose programs of Latin American music, his own original compositions, and classical repertory have taken him from Carnegie Recital Hall to important festivals and venues across the Americas and Europe. Dr. José Lezcano will offer a guitar workshop focusing on Brazilian and Cuban rhythms that can be used for accompaniment before the concert at 1:30 p.m. Free and open to players of all ages, skill levels, and styles.
