DANVILLE — Jump the Line in Overdrive digital books!

We've made it easier for you to find our Danville-only collection of digital titles in Overdrive. Look for the banner and click on "see all." We purchase high demand titles for this collection so you don't have to compete with residents from all over the state. Many popular titles are available and the wait for others is dramatically reduced.

To access Overdrive, please visit our website at colbymemoriallibrary.org and look for Audio/Ebooks under Explore.

Are you new to digital books? Reluctant to try? They are easy to use and you just may find you like them. Digital titles may be read on anything from a desktop computer to a smart phone. There are also a variety of listening formats. Platform specific help guides are available.

You will need your library card number to access Overdrive. If you don't know your number or don't have a card, please email me director@colbymemoriallibrary.org.

If there are titles you would like us to consider ordering, please let me know. We are striving to meet the needs of library patrons, as best we can, through our enhanced digital collection and with our curbside services.

Reminder about Curbside Services

If you haven’t tried our curbside services you are missing out on the opportunity to get the latest books and videos. We, however, understand that some patrons may be uncomfortable borrowing items.

In order to be as safe as possible, all books and videos are quarantined, in between users, for a minimum of three days. We follow CDC guidelines while in the library and while preparing your orders. That includes daily temperature checks, health screens, mask use and rigorous hand hygiene.

Patrons may place holds directly in the catalog, by emailing us titles at orders@colbymemoriallibrary.org or calling 382-6733.

Not sure what you want? We can help with that too. We're happy to make up a bag of books, videos, or audio books based on what you like.

We also have lists in the catalog of our newest titles as well as lists curated by genre. Holds may be placed directly from the lists. When orders are complete, we’ll let you know.

New to town or don't have a card? No problem, we will register you remotely. Email director@colbymemoriallibrary.org for assistance.

The hours of curbside pick-up are as follows:

Mondays: 3:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Saturdays: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Items will be limited to ones that we own. The state Interlibrary Loan system has not resumed

Remembering Charles Coffin

The Trustees and staff of Colby Library remember with fondness the life and generous contributions of Charles Coffin to Danville and to our library. A man of wide interests and reading, he will be missed by many in our town.

Outdoor Book Club

Our Mystery and Suspense Book Club will hold its second outdoor meeting on Thurs., August 6 at 7:00 p.m. If you are a fan of John Sandford, you are welcome to attend. The Lucas Davenport series and other titles will be discussed. Please bring a lawn chair and a face covering. Participants will be asked to sit six feet apart. There will be no access to the building for restrooms. Weather permitting.

Seacoast Science Center passes

The Seacoast Science Center in Rye has reopened with weekend-only hours and limited occupancy. We will offer the reduced admission pass via curbside pick-up but you must make reservations with the center. Further information is available on the center’s website – seacoastsciencecenter.org. Look for the “plan your visit” section. We have two passes for each day. Call us at 382-6733 to check availability.

Stay tuned

While many businesses and some libraries have reopened, we are still implementing our plan. All buildings are unique and offer different challenges for social distancing. Our front entry-way and circulation desk area are both very tight and we are exploring ways to welcome the public back with the least risk to our patrons, our staff, and the community. We will likely offer short appointments for visitors to browse and use computers.

We are still getting the necessary hygiene equipment, such as sanitizing stations and touchless soap and paper towel dispensers. We are looking to increase the level of fresh air in the building and upgrade our HVAC filters. We will require masks and visitors will need to stay six feet apart from each other and staff.

In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook for Colby Crafts at Home, Story Times, and other news and announcements. You can access our Facebook page from our website.
