DURHAM — The University of New Hampshire Department of Theatre and Dance presents the bluegrass musical “Bright Star” October 2 - October 6.
Inspired by a real event and featuring the Grammy-nominated bluegrass score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, “Bright Star” tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920`s and 1940`s. The arrival of a young soldier just home from World War II, sets Alice Murphy on a journey to understand her past; what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. Winner of the 2016 Drama Desk Award, Bright Star is as refreshingly genuine as it is daring and hopeful.
Directed by Professor Deborah Kinghorn with music directed by Professor John Berst and staring a cast of talented UNH students, this tale of love, loss, forgiveness, and redemption will transport audiences to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a story that is truly moving. An ensemble of onstage live musicians playing the bluegrass inspired music and engaging dancers, seamlessly move this story from the 1940`s to the 1920`s and back again.
