HAVERHILL, MA — The Greater Haverhill Chamber is looking forward to lighting up the downtown with holiday festivities at the 27th annual Christmas Stroll, this year powered by Covanta, to be held on Fri., December 6 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in downtown Haverhill.
Not only is Covanta the tree lighting sponsor but they have also donated a 30-year-old blue spruce for this year’s Christmas Tree. “We are grateful that Covanta has donated such a beautiful tree this year,” said Melissa Seavey, Events Director for the Greater Haverhill Chamber.
A great place to start your Stroll is at Harbor Place with Pentucket Bank’s Santa’s Village. Strollers will also enjoy a promenade of ice sculptures, cookie decorating, S’mores, and Pearl Pop-Up Camper with hot cocoa, cider and donuts. At the other end of the downtown, the Chamber is lighting up Columbus Park with blue and white lit trees for Elsa’s Wonderland. Elsa and Olaf from will be on hand for photos.
The Stroll extends throughout the downtown and local shops and restaurants will be hosting activities and special offers. There will be two Pop-Up Shop locations this year- one at 76 Merrimack Street and the other at 90 Washington. The Merrimack Street location will host dozens of local vendors—many selling handcrafted items. Complimentary gift wrapping is available on site. At 90 Washington you can find the ABCs: Arts, Books and Crafts that include, Haverhill House Publishing book signings, a Creative Haverhill ornament craft and Haverhill High School’s Fine Arts Department selling art.
Be sure to stroll on down to the Wingate Winter Wonderland where you will find holiday treats, an activity for kids and Hot Toddies for the grown-ups! Many of the Wingate Shops will be open.
Because the Stroll is being held on a Friday night, only Washington Square will be closed to thru traffic to accommodate commuters. Merrimack and Washington streets will remain open and traffic will be rerouted on Emerson and Essex streets. To ensure public safety, the Haverhill Police Department will have officers on duty to assist with automobile and pedestrian traffic.
This event is being brought to you by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce in coordination with the Downtown Haverhill Business community and Covanta Energy. Other event sponsors include: National Grid, Haverhill Bank, Pentucket Bank, Northern Essex Community College, AutoFair, Haverhill Family Eye Care, and 76 Merrimack Street, as well as Be Imagine Music, Creative Haverhill, HC Media, The Eagle Tribune, and Haverhill Cultural Council.
