EXETER —The Rockingham Choral Society, now in its 63rd season, is holding open rehearsals in September for its Christmas concert and is looking for new and renewed members.
Since 1957, the Rockingham Choral Society has expanded and enhanced cultural experiences by performing choral masterpieces and adhering to the highest musical standards. The Choral Society is comprised of 40-90 members and presents two concerts annually to the audiences in the New Hampshire Seacoast region. The group is open to singers age 16 and older. There is a brief placement audition for new members and dues are waived for high school and college students.
Open rehearsals will take place Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on September 3 at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham; September 10 at Exeter Congregational Church; and, September 17 at the Cooperative Middle School.
“The Rockingham Choral Society has a long tradition of welcoming a diverse membership from the Seacoast community,” notes Dr. Alex Favazza, Artistic Director. “Our fall open rehearsals are an easy way for choral singers with new or renewed interest in joining a group to try it out and decide if this group is right for them.”
The holiday performances will take place Sat., December 7 and Sun., December 8 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Hampstead and at Christ Church Episcopal in Exeter respectively. The program will feature Messe de minuit pour Noel, H.9 by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Magnificat by Dietrich Buxtehude with many opportunities for soloists who are always chosen from the membership, as well as shorter seasonal selections and a few audience sing-a-longs.
