HAMPSTEAD – The Hampstead Men’s Masters Basketball League kicked off its 2013-2014 season last week with the following results: Captain Paul Ramos’ Boutin Glass (1-0) slipped by Captain Dave Rowell’s East Coast Lumber (0-1), 66-64, while in the second game Captain Wayne Hamilton’s Dunkin’ Donuts EH (1-0) nipped Captain Pat Curry’s Gelinas Siding (0-1), 54-53. In the final game, Captain Stan Lewis’ Village Vinyl (1-0) topped Captain Craig Wlodyka’s L&M Construction (0-1), 59-47.

East Coast jumped out to a 19-11 first quarter lead but Boutin Glass turned the tables and tied the game, 30-30, at the half. East Coast was able to take back a slim 47-44 lead going into the final quarter but Boutin got hot at the right time to come away with the 66-64 win. Scott True and Kevin Young each scored 21 points to lead Boutin with help from Tim McDonald with 8 points, Craig McGuire 7 points, Ross Huntington 6 points, and John Boutin with 2 points. East Coast was led by Jason Kimball and Dano Anderson with 22 points each along with Dave Wojichowski with 10 points, Dave Rowell and Dan Munsell 4 points each, and Mark Raumikaitis with 2 points. East Coast led in field goals, 20-15, while Boutin led in three-pointers, 8-6. Boutin hit 15 of 20 free throws for 75% while East Coast hit 6 of 10 for 60%.

Both teams showed no rust from the summer months as the score was tied 18-18 after the first period. Gelinas took a slim 35-31 lead at the half but cooled off in the third frame as Dunkin’ was able to take advantage for a 45-44 lead going into the final frame where Dunkin’ was able to steal the 54-53 win. Bill Whearty led Dunkin’ with 19 points and got help from Jeff Steenson and Terry Crump with 8 points each, Dick Danner 6 points, Bobby Clarke 5 points, and Wayne Hamilton and Ben Ruggles with 4 points each. Gelinas was led by Fred Malcolm with 16 points followed by Ken Gelinas with 13 points, John Suprenant 10 points, John Keisling 5 points, Marty Auger 4 points, Russ Evans 3 points and Scott Suszek with 2 points. Dunkin’ led in field goals, 24-13, while Gelinas dominated in three-pointers, 7-0. Dunkin’ hit 6 of 7 free throws for 86% while Gelinas clanged 4 of 8 for 50%.

Village zipped out to a 19-11 first quarter advantage and maintained the lead, 32-25, at the half. L&M was only able to keep pace in the third period as they still trailed 49-42 and never got closer as Village cruised to the 59-47 win. Matt Tulley led Village with 16 points along with Jim Whitehouse with 10 points, Stan Lewis 7 points, Gary Cebula, Mike Desmond, Keith Therrien and Kevin Crump all with 6 points each, and Dave Goyette with 2 points. Sean Morrissey led L&M with 16 points followed by Craig Anderson with 14 points, Bob Edwards 8 points, Calvin Coleman 6 points and Tony Serino with 2 points. Village led in field goals, 23-12, while L&M led in three-pointers, 5-3. L&M hit 8 of 15 free throws for 53% while L&M hit 4 of 7 for 57%.
