Men's Masters Basketball

HAMPSTEAD – In last week’s action in the Hampstead Men’s Masters Basketball League, Captain Paul Ramos’ Boutin Glass (11-2) ran away from Captain Craig Wlodyka’s L&M Construction (4-9), 67-41, while in the second game Captain Pat Curry’s Gelinas Siding (8-5) squeezed by Captain Dave Rowell’s East Coast Lumber (5-8), 46-43. In the final game, Captain Stan Lewis’ Village Vinyl (6-7) outgunned Captain Wayne Hamilton’s Dunkin’ Donuts East Hampstead (5-8), 81-72.

Boutin came out running and could not miss as they grabbed and early 26-10 lead and continued their run for a 45-20 lead at the half. L&M could not get on track and Boutin was content to exchange baskets the rest of the way for the 67-41 win. Scott True led L&M with 16 points along with Craig McGuire 15 points, Ross Huntington and Kevin Young 9 points each, Tim McDonald 8 points, Kevin Meagher 6 points and John Boutin with 4 points. L&M was led by Bobby Edwards’ 19 points, Sean Morrissey, Craig Anderson and Don Bell all with 6 points each, and Calvin Coleman with 4 points. Boutin led in field goals, 23-15, and three-pointers, 6-2. L&M hit 5 of 5 free throws for 100% while Boutin hit 3 of 8 for 37%.

East Coast Lumber 43

East Coast caught Gelinas on their heels as they took an early 17-9 first quarter lead, but Gelinas started to crawl back into the game to pull within three points at the half, 27-24. East Coast went cold in the third frame and Gelinas took advantage and grabbed the lead, 32-30, and hung on in the final period for the 46-43 win. John Keisling led Gelinas with 15 points followed by John Surprenant with 13 points, Ken Gelinas and Russ Evans 7 points each, and Steve Tripodi and Scott Suszek with 2 points each. East Coast was led by Dano Anderson with 11 points, Jason Kimball 9 points, Dan Munsell 7 points, Dave Wojichowski 6 points, Harry Williams and Joe Dzengeleski 4 points each and Bill Demers with 2 points. East Coast led in field goals, 13-12, and both teams hit 2 three-pointers. Gelinas hit 14 of 21 for 67% while East Coast hit 9 of 19 for 47%.

Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
