NEWTON — Newton Recreation Commission endorses tennis lessons from Rick Bailey to be offered at the High School courts on Wednesdays, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for adults and on Thursdays for kids.
Rick is also interested in offering tennis teams for Juniors. There will be two divisions: a 10 and Under “Orange Ball” and a 12 and Under “Green Ball.” Normal USTA age bracketing rules will apply (Players are eligible for an age group if they do not “age out” prior to July 1). Additionally, the 25 inch racquet length or less rule for the “Orange Ball” also applies.
The teams are co-ed, with a minimum of six kids, three boys and three girls per team and rotate two players through bye’s each week.
The fee will be the $50.00, plus $10.00 for USTA membership and $20.00 to register for league. Rick will need to buy special balls, which he will supply. The league runs from the end of June into August. He will hold practice on Tuesdays and some Wednesdays, maybe weekends. The matches are during the day and Rick will need a parent to be coach for the matches. If enough kids enroll, he may be able to hire another instructor to handle the matches.
