Men's Masters Basketball

HAMPSTEAD – In Week 3 of the Hampstead Men’s Masters Basketball League, Captain Pat Curry’s Gelinas Siding topped Captain Dave Rowell’s East Coast Lumber , 57-45, while in the second game Captain Wayne Hamilton’s Dunkin’ Donuts East Hampstead needed overtime to defeat Captain Stan Lewis’ Village Vinyl, 86-79. In the final game, Captain Paul Ramos’ Boutin Glass schooled Captain Craig Wlodyka’s L&M Construction, 64-48.

East Coast Lumber 45

East Coast grabbed a quick 17-12 first quarter advantage, but Gelinas was able to come back and take a 28-24 lead at the half. East Coast knotted the score, 39-39, going into the final frame where Gelinas found their shooting touch for the 57-45 win. Fred Malcolm led Gelinas with 17 points with a lot of help from John Suprenant with 16 points, Ken Gelinas 9 points, John Keisling 7 points, Scott Suszek 4 points, and Steve Tripodi and Russ Evans with 2 points each. East Coast was led by Dano Anderson with 12 points along with Jason Kimball 10 points, Harry Williams 8 points, Bill Demers 6 points, Dan Munsell 4 points, John Fortin 3 points and Dave Wojichowski with 2 points. Gelinas led in field goals, 19-13, while East Coast led in three-pointers, 5-2. Gelinas hit 13 of 21 free throws for 62% while East Coast hit 4 of 6 for 67%.

Village Vinyl 79

Village took a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 37-29 at the half. Dunkin’ started their comeback in the third period as they took a 52-49 lead going into the fourth quarter. Dunkin’s inability to hit some key free throws and a last second three-pointer by Village forced the game into overtime where Dunkin’ took advantage of the depleted Village Vinyl team for the 86-79 overtime win. Ben Ruggles led Dunkin’ with 23 points followed by Bill Whearty with 21 points, Bobby Clarke 12 points, Dick Danner 10 points, Terry Crump 9 points, Jeff Steenson 7 points, and Dave Youngblood with 4 points. Village was led by Matt Tulley with 19 points, Gary Cebula 17 points, Mike Desmond 16 points, Stan Lewis 11 points, Keith Therrien and Kevin Crump 7 points each and Mike Croke with 2 points. Dunkin’ led in field goals, 28-23, while Village led in three-pointers, 7-3. Dunkin’ hit 21 of 43 free throws for 49% while Village hit 12 of 26 for 46%.

Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
