Murphy Honored at Fenway Park

— Daniel Murphy, of Epping, is a cancer survivor and a Pan-Massachusetts Challenge cyclist who was honored by the Boston Red Sox on June 9th during PMC Day at Fenway Park. Murphy was among the 33 cancer survivors who rode his bike around the warning track in a pre-game ceremony during which the PMC’s 33rd anniversary logo was unveiled on the Green Monster.

On August 4 and 5, together with 5,500 cyclists, Murphy will ride up to 190 miles across Massachusetts in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge bike-a-thon. Now in its 33rd year, the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is a pioneer of the athletic fundraising industry and today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic event in the country. This year’s goal is to raise $36 million for adult and pediatric cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is a model of fundraising efficiency as it contributes 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. This is the ninth year that the Boston Red Sox Foundation is the presenting sponsor of the Pan-Mass Challenge. (Courtesy Photo by Holly Ladd)
