Men's Masters Basketball

---- — HAMPSTEAD – In the final week of the regular season in the Hampstead Men’s Masters Basketball League, Captain Paul Ramos’ Boutin Glass (16-3) topped Captain Stan Lewis’ Village Vinyl (9-10), 60-52, while in the second game Captain Pat Curry’s Gelinas Siding (13-6) defeated Captain Craig Wlodyka’s L&M Construction (6-13), 52-43. In the final game, Captain Wayne Hamilton’s Dunkin’ Donuts East Hampstead (5-14) upended Dave Rowell’s East Coast Lumber (8-11), 50-35.

Boutin jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead and added to their advantage, 33-17, at the half. Village tried to claw back into the game, but still trailed, 46-35, going into the final period where one final push was not enough as Boutin hung on for the 60-52 win. Tim McDonald led Boutin with 14 points followed by Scott True and Fran Roux 11 points each, Kevin Meagher 10 points, Craig McGuire 7 points, Kevin Young 3 points, and Ross Huntington and John Boutin with 2 points each. Village was led by Matt Tulley’s 17 points along with Jim Whitehouse and Kevin Crump 10 points each, Gary Cebula 9 points and Keith Therrien and Mike Croke with 4 points each. Boutin led in field goals, 23-21, as well as three-pointers, 2-1. Village hit 15 of 20 free throws for 75% while Boutin hit 8 of 13 for 62%.

In a slow moving first quarter, L&M took a slim 9-8 lead, but at the half, Gelinas was able to take the same slim advantage, 22-21. Gelinas added a few points to their lead, 34-29, going into the final period where they held on for the 52-43 win. Ken Gelinas led Gelinas with 13 points with a lot of help from John Surprenant with 12 points, Fred Malcolm 10 points, John Keisling 9 points, Scott Suszek 6 points and Steve Tripodi with 2 points. L&M was led by Sean Morrissey with 11 points along with Craig Anderson 10 points, Don Bell 9 points, Tony Serino 6 points, Bob Edwards 4 points and Craig Wlodyka with 3 points. Gelinas led in field goals, 21-14, but L&M had a 3-1 advantage in three-pointers. Gelinas was a perfect 7 for 7 from the free throw line while L&M hit 6 of 10 for 60%.

East Coast Lumber 35

Dunkin’ took a quick 17-6 first quarter lead as East Coast was only able to field four players for the game. East Coast tried to make a game of this contest as they trailed by single digits at the half, 30-21, but they never got any closer and Dunkin’ ran away in the second half for the 50-35 win. Bill Whearty led Dunkin’ with 24 points followed by Dick Danner with 10 points, Ben Ruggles 8 points, Jeff Steenson 4 points, and Ken Fure and Bobby Clarke with 2 points each. East Coast was led by Dan Munsel’s 16 points, Dano Anderson 10 points, John Fortin 7 points and Dave Rowell with 2 points. Dunkin’ led in field goals, 20-16, and there were no three-pointers from either team. Dunkin’ hit 10 of 16 free throws for 63% while East Coast hit 3 of 7 for 43%.

The league playoffs are up next for the Hampstead Masters Basketball League. Boutin Glass and Gelinas Siding finished at the top of the heap and will enjoy first round byes.

In a best of three game series, the #3 seed Village Vinyl will be facing the #6 seed Dunkin’ Donuts while the #4 and #5 seeds L&M Construction and East Coast Lumber will be squaring off. The winners will move onto the semi-final round.
