RYE — Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics and Rye Airfield would like to invite Seacoast area action sports enthusiasts, parents and athletes of all ages to a special discussion on “Concussions and Action Sports”. The session will take place on Sat., October 13, at 11:00 a.m., at Rye Airfield, 170 Lafayette Rd., Rye. There is no fee to attend and all attendees that take the ImPACT Baseline Test after the event will earn a Free Full Session at Rye Airfield.
With celebrity athletes like Tony Hawk and Shawn White, and the popularity of the X Games, action sports have become main
stream in communities across America. Athletes of all ages continue to push the envelope by going faster, bigger and performing
more dangerous tricks. Action sports do come with some inherent risks but they are also a great source of exercise and activity
for young people in our country. Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics and Rye Airfield want to use this forum as an opportunity
to educate parents and athletes so that they are better prepared in the unfortunate case of a concussion or head injury.
Dr. Kevin Heaton, the Director of the Sports Concussion program at Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics, will discuss the
risk of concussions with actions sports and common signs and symptoms of a concussion. He will talk about the importance of
ImPACT Baseline Testing as a first step in concussion management and the step by step protocol that Access Sports Medicine
uses in the case of a head injury.
Food and beverages will be available and all attendees that take an ImPACT Baseline Test after the event will have the opportunity
to ride a free session at Rye Airfield!
