  • Essay Contest Winner

    The Seacoast Republican Women announced the 2014 Annual Scholarship Essay Contest Winner, Griffin Poutre, at their annual spring luncheon on May 9th at the Portsmouth Country Club. The essay subject matter was titled, “Is the greatest threat to our national security internal or external”. Griffin is currently a Junior at Exeter High School and serves as President of his class.

    Gideon Masonic Lodge No. 84 of Kingston, made a substantial donation to three students from the Seacoast School of Technology of Exeter, during a fundraiser held at the lodge on Church St., in Kingston. The young men (all welders), will represent the State of NH in the National Skills Championship in Kansas City, Missouri. Pictured above, from left, are: Linda Murray, parent advisor; Tim Lavelle.   • Backpack Food Program

    Spanish teacher Carolyn Morse, third from left, is deeply involved with her students at Timberlane Regional High School to provide food through a program titled, “Back Pack”. The students, pictured above, collect bags of food and distribute them to other students who could enjoy the food at school or take the food home .. in their back pack.   • Art and Inspiration Around the World

    Sanborn Middle School students dazzled family members and guests at their presentation of “Creative Roots” – Art and Ingenuity Around the World”, held at the school. Art students researched arts and crafts from their own heritage; science students offered a Toy Shop, with hands on global games; drama students presented a series of Tableaux Vivant, or Living Pictures, with painted backgrounds and student actors entering the famous paintings. Photo at left, Rebecca Olsen and Abbigayle Bowden, hold the creative painting of artist Ashley Ellsey, and at right is actress Courtney Collibee. Coordinators include: Lorraine Bilodeau, Art Show; Alice Getchell, Toy Shop; and Carol Misenheimer, Tableaux Vivant.

  • Dad-Daughter Dance

    Father’s and Daughter’s got to attend the annual Father / Daughter Dance, as well as have fun eating cotton candy at Hampstead Middle School. The gala event was hosted by the Hampstead Central School PTO. Having a blast are Mark Hideriotis with daughters Lula, 4, and Maya, age 5. Both girls attend Hampstead Central School.

  • Rev. Neal Perley White, 63

    Raymond, NH — Rev. Neal P. White, 63, of Raymond, N.H., died Thursday, December 26, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, N.H., with his loving family by his side. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Alfred White and Patricia (Johnson) Hodgdon. Neal Perley White was born November 9, 1950, in Burlington, Vt. Raised in Orleans, Vt., he graduated from Lake Region High School in 1968. Neal attended Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vt., receiving his B.S. in Social Sciences in 1975. In 1992, upon graduating from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., Neal became an ordained minister with the United Methodist Church. Neal then went on to receive a Master of Divinity (MDIV) from Bethany Theological Seminary in 1995.

    DANVILLE, NH AND PRESQUE ISLE, ME — Stanley “Stan” N. McPherson, 52, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Danville, NH on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013. He was born in Presque Isle on February 28, 1961, the son of Cluny B. and Effie (Watson) McPherson.

  • Jean Monroe Farrell, 68

    Andover — Jean Monroe Farrell, 68, of Andover, passed away on November 17, 2013, in Lebanon, NH, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Jean was born on April 2, 1945, in Bridgeport, CT, to George and Jennie Monroe, and grew up in Fairfield, CT, where she graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1963. She was a 1968 graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, majoring in Spanish, which she subsequently taught for some 35 years, the first 27 at Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston, NH, and then for three years at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. In 2006 at age 61 she earned a Masters Degree in Education from Harvard University, after which she returned to teaching from 2009 until 2013 at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Jean was also a teacher’s teacher. For a number of years she presented world language teacher training workshops for the University of New Hampshire Continuing Education Professional Development program, and for many public school districts and professional organizations.
