Used Book Drive

---- — Hampstead Academy students have collected well over 1,500 books during their Used Book Drive this year.  All the books collected to date were delivered by the Hampstead Academy Student Council to Guilmette Elementary School in Lawrence, MA, recently, where they will be distributed to either the school's library or to the school's book closet.  Many Guilmette students depend on the library and the book closet, as they do not have books at home to read.  Unfortunately, the library has had little to no budget for new books for the past ten years.  To make matters worse, in 2010-11, the school suffered a mold infestation that resulted in the destruction of the majority of the books.  Depending on their condition, donated books will be either put into the school's library for general circulation or into its book closet.  Book closet books are available to students from homes without books, whose teachers recommend additional reading practice at home.  In such cases, students may select books from the closet to take home and keep.

Do you have gently used books at home that you or your children no longer read or have "outgrown?"  Donate them between now and Thanksgiving to help the Guilmette Elementary School provide books to it's students. Donation boxes will be in the Hampstead Academy lobby, 320 East Rd, Hampstead, NH, 603-329-4406.
