Solar Tour

KINGSTON —Tour Sanborn Regional High School’s solar hot air system with the USGBC and Mick Dunn of Shift Energy, LLC on Wed., October 9, from 7:30-9:00 a.m. at 17 Danville Road in Kingston. The high school installed 7,800 sf of wall mounted solar heating panels in 2011; the panels are divided into four separate wall systems. Two walls connect to large heat recovery units on the roof, with each wall providing solar heated fresh air for the school. The other two walls are on two separate gymnasiums. This site is a great example of multiple solar air heating systems in action, which have been integrated into the building in different ways. Come hear lessons learned and about how this system is performing! A tour of the site will be provided following the presentation.

The presenter: Mick Dunn is founder of Shift Energy, LLC out of Biddeford Maine. He is experienced with commercial and industrial solar heating design for both solar air and hot water. Shift Energy has been active in the design, sales and turnkey design-build of some of the largest solar thermal projects in the Northeast, many of which have been in NH.

Networking and breakfast, featuring a full breakfast - local and creative, will take place from 7:30 - 8:00 followed by a 45-minute presentation and a 15-minute question, answer and discussion period. Attendance is limited and pre-registration with payment is recommended. Attendance is $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members. To register for this event, visit www.usgbcnh.org.

  • Successful Conservation Collaboration

On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!
