---- — EPPING —Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the January 3, 2013 School Board Meeting.
Guests – The District Social Studies Committee presented the first draft of the K-12 aligned social studies curriculum. The previously presented business education curriculum was approved. Director of Professional Learning Lyn Healy encouraged everyone to check out curriculum posted on the district website at www.sau14.org. Auditor Tamar Roberts presented the 2011-2012 Financial Audit and reported that the district was in good financial standing. Engineer Tim Nichols, of AEC Group, presented information on available funding to upgrade the HVAC systems at Epping Elementary.
Policy – The Board approved policies addressing the evaluation of the school board and superintendent and new legislation on fund balance retention, facility maintenance plans for school building aid, and divorce decrees or parent plans for student residency.
Financial/Facilities – Business Administrator Williamson reported that the district had been notified that the electricity rates had been decreased. The district has also been notified that there was an issue with the calculation of this school year’s state adequacy funding and that several school districts had their funding reduced. Epping was notified of a $46,000 loss in adequacy funding. The Board requested an update on the 2012-2013 financial forecast and the adequacy funding issue at the next meeting.
Personnel – EES Teacher Jacqueline Dodge notified the district that she would be retiring at the end of this school year. The Board approved the notification with thanks and best wishes.
Next Meeting –The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on January 17 in the Epping Town hall. The deliberative session is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on February 7 in the EMS Gymnasium. All meetings are open to the public.
