SRHS Academic Awards

KINGSTON — Sanborn Regional High School (SRHS) held its annual Academic Awards Ceremony on September 16, to recognize honored students from the school year 2012-2013. Congratulations to all honored students.

  • Pi Day at Swasey School

    Recently, some 4th and 5th grade students at Swasey Central School in Brentwood, participated in a Pi Day celebration. This day focused on mathematical pi, which included activities regarding circles, diameters and circumferences. In addition, students competed in a "Pi Digit Challenge." They worked to memorize as many digits past the decimal as they could. Pictured are 4th grader Savannah Stucki (114 digits), 5th grader Haley Nickola (105 digits), and 4th grader Rylee Lyles (162 digits).

  • Making Music Sanborn Style

    Sanborn Regional High School hosted its second annual Fine Arts Night at the high school featuring some of Sanborn’s finest musical talents. Eighth grade student Colin Holt is ready to hit the big stage. He is the son of Cheryl and Kevin Holt of Kingston.

  • Sanborn Drama South Pacific

    Roger’s and Hammersteins’s classic musical “South Pacific” was performed by Sanborn Drama at the Sanborn Regional High School. Giant palm trees graced the stage bringing you to the islands and all your favorite listening pleasures. Cast members include from left, Alex Felisberto, Lt.   • Sanborn Students for a Cause

    Teachers, students and alumni at Sanborn Regional High School held a “cut it for a cause” cut-a-thon in the auditorium of the school in Kingston, to benefit the Virginia Bartlett Scholarship fund. Ginny Bartlett was the librarian at the school for eighteen years, and lost her battle to cancer. Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths makes and donates wigs to women fighting cancer. Committee members include from left, Madi McLellan, Erin Thompson, Sophie Bortone, Bob Bartlett, husband of Ginny, and Josie Eacho, Key Club president. A special thanks to stylists: Nina, Ashley, and Samantha from Epic Design Studio, Jackie and Melissa from Salon Invidia, and Tammy from Cutting Concepts.

  • Jo Ann Hughes, 79

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.

  • John Colby, 76

    Brentwood, NH — John Ellsworth Colby, 76, formerly of Sandown, N.H., and Brownville, Maine, died on February 22, 2014, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. Born in Keene, N.H., Mr. Colby was the first son of the late Russell and Edythe Colby of Bradford, Mass. His brother, Dr. David R. Colby of Beaufort, N.C., predeceased him as well. Mr. Colby graduated in 1955 from Haverhill High School and attended Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was a well known home designer and builder, and furniture craftsman, particularly known for his ability to create beautiful curved staircases. He was the founding production manager of both Westville Homes Corporation of Plaistow, N.H., and Xyloid Corporation of Greenville, Pa.,, pioneers in the modular home industry. He was also proprietor of the Westville Getty service station in Plaistow in the 1970s, and co-owner and occasional driver of the “1/5 Schenley Special” stock cars that raced, from 1968 to 1989, at Star in Epping, N.H., Lee, N.H., Hudson, N.H., and Westboro Mass., speedways.
