---- — EPPING — Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the May 2, 2013 School Board Meeting.

Guests – The Board approved moving forward to determine interest for a science trip to the marine and forest habitats of Honduras.

Facilities/Financial – a. Finances - The District is projected to be in good financial standing with $177,000 in projected surplus. This figure does not include funding the buildings and grounds capital reserve or the cost for outstanding safety, security, and facility projects. b. Playground - On April 22nd the Board attended a meeting of the Selectmen to determine the amount of impact fees that could be used for the playground. The Selectmen approved impact fees to cover fifty-percent of the total project cost. On April 25 the Board attended a meeting of the Playground Committee to discuss the status of the project. The committee recommended moving forward with the project balance coming from monetary donations and using a supervised build. The Board approved the elementary playground project as presented by the committee. On May 16 a public hearing will be held to accept the gifts/donations of the form of money and services.

Next Meeting –On May 20 at 7:00 p.m. there will also be a meeting of the district and town to begin discussion on facility/program needs and resources. All meetings are being held in the Epping Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

Nonpublic – The Board requested a comprehensive safety and security assessment of district schools. In nonpublic session, the Board was presented with the full report including the assessment and prioritized recommendations to improve safety and security.
