---- — EPPING – Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the August 16, 2012 School Board Meeting.
Guests – The Board met with the Athletic Director to discuss the practice of approving the annual athletic game schedule. It was decided to continue the present practice of requesting waivers for athletic activities falling on holidays.
Policy – Home education policy, revised to reflect recent changes in state law, was approved.
Financial Business – School/district affiliated group agreements with Project Graduation and Epping Blue Devils Special Olympics New Hampshire were approved to permit fundraising in the schools/district. The Board approved the 2012-2013 anticipated revenues used to set the tax rate.
The Board reviewed/discussed new legislation on retention of funds by a school district, special education services for charter school students, repeal of retirement penalties for spiking, education tax credit, school building aid, vocational education funding, and adequacy funding.
Facilities – It was reported that a letter expressing interest in contracting with the town for snowplowing was sent to the Board of Selectmen.
A representative from the playground manufacturer inspected the EES structure declared unsafe by the insurance company. He agreed that the structure should not be used until the platforms and missing chain ladder are replaced.
He will report back on the cost to replace the platforms with new galvanized steel equivalents and the chain ladder with a new ladder or other appropriate piece.
A longer term plan to address other aging structures will also be developed. An update was also given on community representatives that volunteered to serve on the athletic fields committee.
Personnel – The Board approved the resignation of EHS Physical Education Teacher Dave Dutra with regret.
Next Meeting –The next regular meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., on Thurs., September 6.
The meeting will begin with a facilities tour starting at the elementary school. A public hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m., in the Epping Town Hall for a donation in excess of $5,000 followed by the regular meeting.
