Literacy Week at EMS

Carriage Towne News

---- — EPPING - Epping Middle School’s (EMS) Literacy Week will be celebrated from December 17-21. Planned events include the school-wide Spelling Bee. Five students from each grade will qualify (after grade-level spelling bees are held) to represent their peers in an all-school assembly. The winner will go on to the Regional Spelling Bee in March.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ Reading Motivational Assembly will also take place that week. Fisher Cat representatives and their mascot, Fungo, will speak to the students to motivate them to read. Students reading five books by the opening of the Fisher Cat Season will receive two free tickets to selected Fisher Cat Games. A cash prize is also awarded to the school with the highest percentage of participation.

The week before Literacy Week (December 10-14), students will be able to participate in a Holiday Book Swap. For each book brought in for the swap, students will receive a coupon good for the purchase of a swapped book. This is an excellent opportunity for students to do some holiday shopping at no cost. Free gift wrapping will be available.

Barnes & Noble Fundraiser - The eight grade class will hold a fundraiser for the Washington, DC trip at Barnes and Noble in Newington on Sun., December 9, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Ten per cent (10%) of all sales to those wearing an EMS identification sticker will come back to Epping Middle School to offset the cost of the Washington Trip. Be sure to ask for the identification sticker before making any purchases. Entertainment will be provided including holiday songs by the Middle School chorus. Activities will also be available for younger children, as well as free gift wrapping (donations accepted). Purchases made on-line at can also be credited to EMS by using the code.
