---- — EPPING —Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the July 18, 2013 School Board Meeting.

Guests – Teacher Melorah Bisaillon presented a student video project on making good choices regarding illegal substances. Superintendent Barbara Munsey presented the District Science Curriculum Framework. The Board approved the curriculum as presented.

Policy – Emergency care and first aid practices were reviewed and updated in Policy EBBC. The Board conducted a second reading. A first reading was conducted on the revised Policy JLCJ Concussions and Head Injuries. The revision permits supervised gradual return to play.

Committee Reports – The elementary school playground has been removed and the surface prepared for the new playground equipment. The Athletic Committee presented Attendance & Consequences Guidelines, Student Behavior & Consequences Guidelines, and Student Academic Eligibility Guidelines. This work was done in coordination with administration and approved by the administration and committee. The Board approved the guidelines as presented.

Financial – The Board awarded the special education transportation bid to Provider. The Board approved the Capital Improvement Plan which was revised to include the oil tank repairs to meet the state mandate for double sleeved pipes and the need for a new vehicle to address fields and limited truck availability during the winter months. It was explained that the elementary tank has recently had two incidents in which the elementary heating system shut down due to water in the tank. It is thought that the water is getting in through the piping. The Board awarded the fuel tank repair work to MB Maintenance and declared it an emergency expense. The Board approved the recommendation to apply the Local Government Center health insurance reimbursement to expense. The Board was informed that the capital reserve fund would be fully funded at $50,000 as approved by the voters. The Board also approved the School Physical Security Enhancement Grant to offset security initiatives.

Personnel – The Board approved the resignation of EMS Teacher Heather Saluto and the nomination of Karen Donovan for a Grade 5 teaching position. The Board also approved the 2013-2014 Substitute Handbook.

Next Meeting – The next meeting is scheduled for Thurs., August 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public and regular meetings televised on ETV.
