Epping School Board News

EPPING —Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the June 5, 2014 School Board Meeting.

Scheduled Guests – The Epping Elementary School National Honor Society gave a presentation on their school year activities collecting supplies for the troops and raising funds for many charities such as NHSPCA, cancer research, etc. The school board thanked the students for their leadership and contributions setting an example for other students.

Committee Reports – The Board welcomed new member Jamie Mallett. Vacant board committee assignments were filled and committee reports made.

Financial Report – The Board approved a United Way grant for middle and high school film projects. The films will be showcased at the Granite Youth Film Festival in Epping. The district also thanked individuals making donations to the Goodrich Memorial. These funds will be used to support a project promoting flight.

Personnel – The following nominations were approved: Varsity Football Coach – Justin Leonard; Elementary Teacher – Francesca Kennedy; Special Services Guidance Counselor – Justin York; and Middle School Principal – Brian Ernest.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 19. Meetings are open to the public and regular meetings televised on ETV.

  •  Successful Conservation Collaboration

    On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

  • Volunteer of the Year

    Atkinson Academy Elementary School has named its Volunteer of the Year for 2014. Timberlane Regional High School graduate Ashley Higham, right, received the award from teacher Meredith Bastien, pictured left. Ashley volunteered her services three days a week for two hours in 5-K Intensive Needs classes during the school year.
