---- — EPPING —Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the June 6, 2013 School Board Meeting.

Guests – a. World Language Teacher Ray Carrier reported on the April 2013 trip to Quebec and received approval for the April 2014 trip to Paris, Provence, and Barcelona. b. The Board approved the blue and white t-shirts for the NH Blue Devils Special Olympics. c. The Board approved participation in the Joint Space Needs Study Committee and appointed Shannon Boelter to represent the Board. d. Athletic Director Larry Averill gave a comprehensive report on athletics. Recommended consequences and guidelines for behavior and attendance and academic eligibility were presented. The Board directed these recommendations be reviewed by the Athletic Committee. Positional changes were also recommended to make for more efficient operations. The request for the AD position to have discipline authority and placement in the chain of command protocol was approved. Scheduling, contracting, and supervising maintenance of the fields was also placed under the AD position. The AD will hold a field/gym scheduling meeting prior to all the sport seasons to receive input on user needs. The Board approved the fundraising proposal and donations to retrofit and erect the football/soccer scoreboard in memorial to graduate Josh Krantz. The athletic program will be adding the NHIAA “Life of an Athlete” substance abuse awareness/prevention and wellness program. Athletic uniform requests were discussed. New/replaced uniforms will be blue and white. To improve safety and security police coverage will be requested for football and basketball games, behavior guidelines will be posted, and mandatory parent-player pre-season meetings will be held. No additional sports are being recommended due to the default budget. Project Unify, sponsored by Special Olympics, will add soccer. Sport highlights, special recognitions, and career milestones were also presented.

Committee Reports – The Board will hold a public hearing on June 20 to accept in-kind playground contributions in excess of $5,000. Town recreation has also expressed interest in some of the existing playground equipment.

Personnel – The Board approved the resignation of EHS Special Education Teacher Amy Birck and the nominations of EHS Special Education Teacher Matthew Cartmill, Grade 6 Mathematics Teacher Shannon Murphy, Grade 7 Language Arts Teacher Juliana Flintosh, and Grade 4 Teacher Catherine Yates.

Next Meeting – The next meeting is scheduled for Thurs., June 20, 7:00 p.m. in the Epping Town Hall. The meeting will begin with a public hearing. Meetings are open to the public and televised on ETV.
