Preschooler Wins the Bid

On April 10, Superintendent Dr. Earl Metzler made good on his auction offer to read to a winning student’s classroom.  As part of the Pollard School PTA’s Silent Auction/Family Fun Night, administration and staff were asked to consider a donation of activity or service to be put up for auction.  Dr. Metzler’s time was highly sought after, but in the end the highest bid went to four year-old Michael Smith, a TLC student in Ms. Katie Foss’s preschool classroom at Pollard School. The children and staff were excited to learn that Michael’s family outbid all others to win the opportunity to have Dr. Metzler read to the classroom. After reading and singing with the children, Dr. Metzler then joined them at a small table to focus his efforts on drawing and writing about his favorite animal. The children were thrilled to add his page to their special classroom book. Michael is shown above sitting at Dr. Metzler’s right.

  • Successful Conservation Collaboration

On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!
