TRMS Spelling Bee

---- — PLAISTOW — Timberlane Regional Middle School held the 29th annual Spelling Bee on December 12. Close to 1200 students participated in the preliminary spelling bee rounds leading up to the school-wide Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Atkinson Lions Club. Held at the Performing Arts Center, twelve finalists competed through twenty-one rounds to arrive at an overall winner.

Emily Hammond, an eighth grade student won the competition after spelling the word “Innovator” correctly. She will go on to compete at the NH Regional Bee and then to the State finals in Manchester, sponsored by the New Hampshire Union Leader and The Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. The National Spelling Nee finals will be held in Washington, D.C. in June.

Placing second was sixth grader student Dan Lewis, and placing third was seventh grade student Kim McCabe. Other finalists were Vaughan Bourassa, Luke Sanchez, Tara Stoddard, Lizzy Aoun, Mary Hanrahan, Rachel Paradis, Kyle Butler, Veronica Galimberti and Kelly Hanrahan.

The TRMS Spelling Bee has taken place for twenty-nine years and has become a part of the history of the school. It is through a partnership with the Atkinson Lions Club and the school that this competition has thrived. Trophies, certificates, and support have been provided by the Lions Club.

Enrichment Teacher Ms. Nicole Freligh and a staff of judges were the coordinators for this successful event.

Lions making presentations were Dick Magoon, Bob Gustafson and Tony Abate.
