Epping School Board News

EPPING — Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the January 17, 2013 School Board Meeting.

Administrator Reports – a.) The Board discussed basketball and spirit uniforms with the Athletic Director. All EHS uniforms are to be blue and white with black trim and EMS uniforms are to be blue and white with red trim. The Board directed that this information be printed in the athletic handbooks. b.) The Superintendent reported on the new growth model included in the NH Department of Education’s federal waiver for No Child Left Behind. The new growth reports provide median growth and percent proficiency data for students with disabilities, socio-economically disadvantaged, and all other students’ subgroups. For example, all other students are achieving at 90% proficiency in reading with socio-economic students a little bit less, and students with disabilities significantly less. Similar results have been noted in other districts. The district is having conversations on a state, region, and local level. The District Leadership Team will develop a course of action after collecting input from teachers and other resources outside the district.

Financial/Facilities – a. The Board approved the 2013 warrant, deliberative session materials, and state budget reports. This year’s warrant includes the following articles:

• Paraprofessional agreement

• Buildings and grounds capital reserve fund

• Elementary playground replacement

• Budget

• Permission to retain a fund balance.

The budget was reduced by $135,324 as recommended by the Budget Committee. b. It was reported that the recently announced $47,000 shortfall in state adequacy aid was being addressed by the legislature. c. The January forecast has improved to $82,000 in projected surplus due to changes in special education student needs and placements and replacement paraprofessional staff salary and benefit costs.

Next Meeting – The deliberative session is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., on February 7th in the EMS Gymnasium. A school board meeting, to act on any changes from the deliberative session, is scheduled to follow. All meetings are open to the public.
