Epping School Board News

EPPING —Welcome to the Epping School Board News Corner for the December 19, 2013 School Board Meeting.

Policy – The Board approved Section F facilities, H negotiations, and L education agency relations policies as recommended by the Policy Committee. A first reading was held on Policy EF Food Service Management. This policy is being revised as requested by the state audit.

School Administrator Reports – School Principals reported that the schools celebrated the holiday season with winter concerts, choral sings at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, and various charitable activities. Elementary and middle schools continue to implement the Math in Focus program with professional development and additional student supports. All schools will begin the second round of STAR testing to assess student progress in reading, English language arts, and mathematics and identify students needing additional support. A discussion was held on high school absences, tardies, and athletic/extra-curricular consequences. No action was taken. This year all sophomores were given the PSAT with the hope that the scores and resources will yield positive benefits in the future. The Senior Class Trip to Hershey Park and Jim Thorpe Rafting/Biking was approved.

Financial Business – The 2014 warrant was revised to reflect recommendations made by district counsel. The warrant article information materials were revised to reflect the warrant changes and recommendations made at the Budget Committee meeting. The Board approved the 2013 District Report Card, which will be printed in the annual report.

Next Meeting – The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 16, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the SAU office. A public hearing is scheduled for January 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Epping Town Hall. A meeting has been scheduled prior to the public hearing at 6:00 to address any petition warrant articles. Meetings are open to the public and regular meetings televised on ETV.

  •  Successful Conservation Collaboration

    On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

  • Volunteer of the Year

    Atkinson Academy Elementary School has named its Volunteer of the Year for 2014. Timberlane Regional High School graduate Ashley Higham, right, received the award from teacher Meredith Bastien, pictured left. Ashley volunteered her services three days a week for two hours in 5-K Intensive Needs classes during the school year.
