  • EMS Students Take Part in Film Festival

The Epping Middle School Student Leadership Team took part in the Granite Youth Alliance Film Festival on June 2. Their short film "Where One Post May Lead" focused on the dangers of substance abuse and the appropriate use of social media. The Granite Youth Film Festival is a unique opportunity for young filmmakers to write, direct, shoot, and star in their own productions, designed to ignite change in the community. Students were able to see their work up on the big screen at the O’Neil Cinema in Epping. Maylee Gagnon and Ben Fowler represented the team and were interviewed on the creation process and how it felt to be a star on the big screen. The project was directed by Guidance Counselor Nick DeGruttola and Media Specialist Thelma Thompson. Representatives from the EMS Leadership Team are pictured above, from left, Abby Simard, Jasmyne Bickford, Maya Martin, Maylee Gagnon, Rachel Martin, Ben Fowler, Colin Farris, Nathaniel Marshall, Megan McFadden.

  • Successful Conservation Collaboration

On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

  • Velma J. Reid

South Hampton, NH — Velma J. Reid, 80, died peacefully on July 17, 2014 at Exeter Hospital, surrounded by family. She was born in Haverhill, Mass. on June 8, 1934, the daughter of the late George C.W. and Alta I. (Kimball) Haynes. A graduate of Haverhill High School, Velma worked at Western Electric until she had children.
