EPPING – School Board News Corner for the September 20 School Board Meeting.
Guests – Athletic Director Averill received holiday waivers for athletic activities and approval for a winter track program conditional upon funding within athletic budget. Band Director Breault reviewed the band information packet provided to parents/students and protocols on distributing instruments to students.
Policy – Second readings were conducted on concussion/head injury and student athletics/extracurricular policies.
Committee Reports – The Board added this new agenda item to provide an opportunity for updates on committee responsibilities. The Athletic
Committee is actively meeting to discuss field improvement. Elementary Facilities Committee is awaiting a demographic study. Playground Committee is being formed. Paraprofessional Negotiations is beginning. Work on other committees is also progressing according to school schedule.
Financial – The Board approved the 2013-2014 budget schedule. It was reported that a preliminary forecast is anticipating no funds unexpended at the end of the school year. The District is continuing to monitor fluctuations in benefit and special education costs. NH Retirement has released next year’s retirement rates. Rates are increasing 22% for non-teachers and 25% for teachers with the District anticipating an increase of $186,300 in retirement costs.
Facilities – Business Administrator Williamson reported that the playground repair materials are anticipated September 28 with an installation date in the first two weeks of October. Residents have expressed interest in serving on the Playground Committee; the Board approved moving forward with the committee. It was also reported that the Town Selectmen have approved providing snowplowing services to the District; financial details are not known at this time.
Technology – Technology Director Gilligan reported that the new elementary phones have been installed and are working fine. Email was
affected for ~ two weeks due to an issue with the state system. The Technology Committee will be discussing how to rectify these
issues in the future. The District is broadcast-ready in the gymnasium and library/media areas. The school and town are planning
a meeting to discuss how things are going and any future needs for ETV.
Next Meeting – A meeting with the Epping Budget Committee is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on October 17 in the Epping Town Hall. The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for October 18.
