Hampstead, NH — Dr. David Kenneth Duston, 72, of Hampstead, NH died on Sunday at his home.
He was the son of Kenneth H. and Dorothy Whitely Duston. David graduated from Hampstead High School ('58), MIT earning B.S. ('62) & M.S. ('65) degrees, and a PhD ('69) from RPI. All three degrees were in the field of Electrical Engineering. He was married to Beth Berglund from 1963-94, then to Alice Carter Woods from 1995-present.
He managed then owned Duston Oil Co, Inc, chaired the Oil Heat Council of NH and the New England Fuel Institute, and served as a 3rd generation volunteer Hampstead fireman and EMT-I for 27 years. David was an inventor of laser devices, an Eagle Scout, an entrepreneur, a Phi Sigma Kappa brother, a Power Squadron trainer, drafter of NH environmental legislation, a sailor, a golfer, and a traveler.
He is survived by his sister Janet Lamson, his former wife Beth, their two daughters Karin Getschow and Kristina Magnusson, 5 granddaughters, his wife Alice and her four children - Bill Woods, Deborah Ryan, Elizabeth Thurston, Kim Koller-Boutet, and 10 step-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: His memorial service was held Nov. 2 and his ashes were laid to rest Nov. 3 with family in attendance at Lake View Cemetery on Kent Farm Rd. in Hampstead. In lieu of flowers, David suggested donations to one of these charitable organizations: Hampstead Congregational Church, 61 Main St., Hampstead, NH 03841, the Rockingham County 4-H Foundation, 113 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833, the Hampstead Fireman's Association, 17 Little's Lane, Hampstead, NH 03841, or MIT Alumni Fund, 600 Memorial Dr., W98-2nd floor, Cambridge, MA 02139-4822, earmarked for financial aid or scholarships to NH students in his memory.
