Arlette Selfe, 78

East Hampstead, NH — Arlette Hooper Selfe, 78, of East Hampstead, passed away peacefully at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital on September 7, 2013, with her family by her side. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Selfe and her six children, Richard Hooper (Catherine) of Lampasas, Texas, Fabienne Verschoor (Alex) of Nottingham, Patricia Howard (Casey) of Farmington, Carol Lefebvre (Tim) of Strafford, Leslie St. Laurent of Stafford, Virginia and Michele Hooper of Atkinson. Arlette is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Nicole Lefebvre, Anthony Bucci, Richard Bucci, Tyler Lefebvre, Kara St. Laurent, Benjamin Howard, Grant St. Laurent, Joshua Howard and Jocelyn Hooper. She had three stepchildren, Rebecca Wessels of Hilo, Hawaii, Jeanette Englert (Fred) of Trout Run, Pa., and Suzan Stout (Matt) of Exeter. Arlette was predeceased by her first husband, John Richard Hooper in 1989.

Arlette was born in 1935 in Melun, France, the daughter of Robert and Marie (Dallesasse) Girault. She was the oldest of five children and is survived by her beloved sisters, Nicole Dentant, Claudine Bouquot and her brother, Alain Girault. Arlette’s sister, Ginette Vachon passed in 2009.

Arlette enjoyed spending time with her family and the friends she gained through the activities she enjoyed such as gardening and quilting. She enjoyed time working at the University of New Hampshire Dining Services in the 1980s at Huddleston Hall. She was a dedicated Army wife and mother, making a home for her family wherever they were transferred to, and was beloved by all those she came in contact with. Her family always came first and she enjoyed doting on her grandchildren above all else. She enjoyed traveling but was most at home when she could turn a few minutes in her kitchen into a meal to feed the family she would love to see gather.

Arlette loved flowers and her children will ensure she will always be surrounded by them, so we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute at CancerResearch.org in Arlette’s name.
