Mitchell Brook, 63

North Hampton, N.H. — Mitch passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 11, in his newly acquired apartment in Exeter, N.H. after battling cancer for several years.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and spent most of his childhood in Dumont, N.J. until he graduated from Dumont High School in 1966. He then attended Berklee College of music in Boston

Mitch spent most of his life playing the bass, both upright and guitar, and ran his own business as a piano tuner/technician for more than 30 years. During his diverse musical career, Mitch played in many bands, including Something Cool, a 7-piece band in which his wife Karen was the singer. In recent years, he found joy in playing bass for the Bethany Church praise band in Greenland, N.H.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Karen Cameron-Brook; his stepmother, Alice Brook; his son Mitchell Brook Jr.; his sisters Nancy (Brook) Shields and Gail (Brook) Bedell; his stepchildren Kristen Noonan and Michael Hores; along with many friends who appreciated his musical talents, sense of humor and soft-spoken kindness.

He was predeceased by his father, Paige Brook, who was the Associate Principal Flutist for the NY Philharmonic for 36 years, and his mother, Avis Brook, a fine singer.

ARRANGEMENTS: At Mitch’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service at this time. A jazz concert in his honor will be announced at a later date.
