Dorothy E. Brown
HAMPSTEAD – Mrs. Dorothy E. (Toshach) (Brackett) (Atwood) Brown, 84, of Hampstead and formerly of Atkinson, died Friday May 15, 2009, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.
Born in Atkinson, daughter of the late Howard and Alice (Murley) Toshach, she graduated from the Atkinson Academy with the Class of 1943, and attended the John Arnold Trade School in Haverhill, MA. Before her retirement, she was employed as a tester at Western Electric Co. in North Andover, MA, and also was employed previously at Haverhill Shoe Novelty.
A former member of the First Baptist Church of Plaistow and the Hampstead Congregational Church, Mrs. Brown was also active with the Danville Grange, the Atkinson Grange, and the Derry Pathfinders.
She was an accomplished tap dancer as a young woman and continued to enjoy dancing into her later years. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and traveling on all terrain vehicles.
She is survived by her husband of seventeen years, Forrest M. Brown; two sons, Raymond Brackett, Jr. of Eagle Point, OR, Robert Brackett of Palmdale, CA; four daughters, Patricia J. Powers of Columbus, MI, Joyce McGlue of Mineral Springs, AK, Sandra Robinson of Columbus, MI, and Alice Wheatley of Ukipa, CA; three brothers, Leroy Toshach of Lawrence, MA, Howard Toshach of Bradford, MA, and Norman Toshach of Barrington; two sisters, Ruth Luro of Tamarack, FL, and Hazel Deamon of Derry; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, twenty-one step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral was held on May 19 at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead. Memorial donations may be made to Sad Café, 148 Plaistow Rd., Plaistow, NH 03865.
Paul E. Flynn
HAMPSTEAD – Paul E. Flynn, 83, of Brentwood and formerly of Hampstead, died May 12, 2009, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.
Born in Charlestown, MA, he attended schools in Boston.
An avid fisherman and camper, Mr. Flynn was known as a “Jack of All Trades,” with knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electricity, and even built his own cabin on Balch Lake in Wakefield, where he resided for many years.
Mr. Flynn retired from the Town of Wilmington, MA and had also previously worked for Unicast, and Barbo’s Furniture. Most recently, he was employed as a driver for P.D. Circuits.
The husband of the late Anna (Grace) Flynn, he is survived by a sister, Alice Gill of Brockton, MA, and special friends, David and Kim Wolff and their children, of Stratham.
A graveside service was held on May 18, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pepperill, MA.
Homer “Cecil” Johnson
EXETER – Homer “Cecil” Johnson Jr., 74, of Exeter, died May 16, 2009, at Exeter Hospital. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Exeter on September 26, 1934, son of Homer and Marjorie (Daniels) Johnson. He graduated from Epping High School and NH Vocational Technical College. He spent two years in the US Marine Corps in the 1st Radio Company. Cecil was a call fireman for five years for the town of Exeter in the early 1970’s.
Before retirement, he was employed by the NH Department of Transportation for Bridge Maintenance for thirty four years. He was one of the few NH State employees that did scuba diving inspections on the portion of the bridges under water. For the last eleven years of his career, he held the position of Bridge Construction Superintendent on NH Turnpikes.
He was a beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather. He was a loyal friend to many. He was known to have a dry sense of humor and loved to play jokes on his family and friends. He loved spending time with the grandchildren. They never knew what he would be pulling on them next.
He enjoyed traveling, family vacations, dining out, working in his yard, his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, working on and enjoying his antique Mercury and family gatherings. He and Ellie visited and toured 14 different countries. If someone needed something done, Ellie would always say, “Cecil will do it”.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Epping for many years. He was a member of the Exeter Area Lions Club for 31 years. He held every position in the club. He furthered his Lions activities to the State level. He held the prestigious position of District 44-H District Governor in 1988-89. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow the highest honor bestowed on a Lion member.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellena “Ellie” Johnson, daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Stephen Towle, grandchildren, Stevie and Rob, daughter and son-in-law, Julie and James “Dirk” Osburn, grandchildren, Teddy and Danielle, two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Angelina, one sister, Lucille Connolly of E. Kingston, one brother, Albert Johnson of Derry.
Funeral services were held on May 21, at the Congregational Church of Exeter, UCC. Burial with military honors was in the Exeter Cemetery.

Myron W. Cate
RAYMOND — Myron W. Cate, 79, of Hay Springs, Nebraska died peacefully at home on August 20, 2010. Myron was born on February 23, 1931 in Manchester. He was a resident of Raymond, until he joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in both the Navy and then the Air Force during the Korean War. Myron's patriotism and strong love of American Freedom was seen as he was known to even carry a copy of the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution in his pocket.
