Sue A. Houston

MERRIMAC, MA- Sue A. Houston arrived in Kansas City, MO on January 21, 1936 and departed in Merrimac, MA on June 23, 2008. She held a cosmetology license in Kansas City, MO and in California. She spent 22 years in California, giving birth to her daughters, being a mother, which she felt was her greatest employment. She made Merrimac her home in 1978. She worked for Copy Quik in Cambridge and Everett, MA, as a typesetter.

She was blessed with three daughters, Fonda (Goutier) Page of Merrimac, MA and her husband, Brian; Anna (Stanzione) Ivory of Quincy, MA and her husband Eric; and Margaret (Stanzione) Johnson of Kingston, and her husband Gregory. She also had six super grandchildren, Lennon Stanzione of Quincy, MA; Memorie (Bancroft) Costello of Seabrook, and her husband Anthony; Kyle Drowne of Newburyport, MA; Jaymes Melzard of Quincy, MA; Samantha Drowne of Cape May, NJ; and Dennis Johnson of Kingston; two wonderful great-grandsons, Jesse Perreault of Merrimac, MA, and Steven Michael Costello of Seabrook; beloved brother, Ed “Sam” Houston and his wonderful wife Marjorie of Quartzsite, AZ; dear cousin, Robert G. Chilton of Salem, MA; and several nieces and nephews in different areas of the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Fonda (Rose) Houston of Kansas City, MO, and a sister, Mary (Houston) Wernicke of Fort Worth, TX.

Sue cherished her family and friends, loved books, cats and her computer.

The funeral was private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, 63 Elm Street, Salisbury, MA 01952.



Richard C. Wilcox

DANVILLE – Richard C. “Rick” Wilcox, 54, of Danville, and a resident of the Southern New Hampshire area for the past twenty years, died June 11, 2008 at his home.

Born in Beverly, MA, son of Rosamond (Preston) Wilcox of Georgetown and the late Fernley Wilcox, he was raised in Georgetown and graduated from Georgetown High School with the Class of 1971.

Rick attended ITT Technical School, and was presently working as a self employed heating and cooling specialist. He was previously employed at Merrimack College in North Andover, MA.

A member of St. Matthew’s Church of Sandown, he was an active volunteer with the Essex Shipbuilding Museum and was involved with the building of a Revolutionary War replica ship, the “Louis B. Storey”. He also worked as a tour guide on the Salem Trolley historical tours in Salem, MA.

Interested in sailing and nautical navigation, Rick was presently taking courses towards his captain’s license. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping and genealogy research.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer M. Fuflis and her husband James, and Karen L. Wilcox, all of Rowley, MA, a brother Paul Wilcox, of Hampton, two sisters, Prudence Thresher of Hampton, and Elaine Tremblay of Morristown, FL, grandchildren Derrick Wilcox, and Ashley Fuflis and Ryan Fuflis, also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral was held on June 24, in St. Matthew’s Methodist Church, Sandown. Burial was in Plaistow Cemetery, Plaistow. The family requests that memorial donations be made to The Essex Shipbuilding Museum, P.O. Box 277, Essex, MA 01929.
