ORO VALLEY, AZ – Barbara “BJ” Richard left us June 5, 2008, after her battle with breast cancer.
Her father, Walter Slaughter and her mother, Leta preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roy W. Richard; her two daughters, Diana Richardson (David) and Ruth Mahoney (Jack); three sons, Roy Jr. (Sue), Paul (Laura), and David; also, by her brother, Walter Slaughter (Jean). She was blessed with five granddaughters, Danielle, Darcy, Shannon, Shelby and Erin. Barbara was also the aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Born in Chicago and raised in Bellwood, Ill., Barbara met her husband Roy and they married May 4, 1957. They lived in Roselle, Ill., before moving to Atkinson, NH, where they lived for more than 20 years before moving to Oro Valley in 1988.
Barbara loved taking care of her children and later in life opened a Decorating Den business for home interior decorating. After retiring she continued developing her painting skills and belonged to the Southern Arizona Watercolor Society, Sun City Painters, Southern Arizona Art Guild, and the Tubac Art Association.
A memorial service was held on June 11 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N First Ave., Oro Valley, AZ.
