He was born May 1, 1915, a native and life long resident of Danville, son of the late Chester Arthur and Cora Belle (Lovering) Kimball.
Richard attended the Eaton Grammar School in Danville and later graduated from Sanborn Seminary in Kingston. Richard worked for many years as a carpenter for several area companies. On the side, he built a few homes as a general contractor.
Richard’s passion was music and he had a natural and trained voice shared at numerous area churches. He was the former choir director at the Danville Free Will Baptist Church, the Bethany Congregational Church in Rye, and the First Congregational Church of Haverhill, MA. He also sang at numerous functions for the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodges, and played leading roles in performances of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas given by the “Seacoast Savoyards” of Portsmouth.
In his 50’s, Richard took a piano technician’s course at the North Bennett St. School in Boston, MA. From there, he opened his own business as piano tuner and technician, which he ran for over 30 years from his home. Mr. Kimball was a very active member of the Piano Technicians Guild, and was privileged to have received their certification.
Richard was a life member of the Gideon Masonic Lodge #84 in Kingston, former member and church sexton of the Danville Freewill Baptist Church, former planning board member for the Timberlane Regional School District and former vice chair of their school board. He served as former postmaster in Danville for a few years.
For several years, Richard and his wife, Amy, volunteered their time as counselors at Camp Sentinel in Tuftonboro, a part of the American Baptist Churches.
In his spare time, Mr. Kimball enjoyed camping, hiking, ice skating, and bicycling. He mostly liked spending time with his grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by his two wives, Eleanor Newell Franklyn in 1937, and Amy Shunaman Kimball in 2004.
