Richard J. Denis
HAMPSTEAD – Richard J. Denis, 68, of Hampstead, died April 4, at the Methuen Health & Rehabilitation Center, Methuen, following an extended illness.
Born in Lowell, MA, son of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Frechette) Denis, he attended Lowell and Tyngsboro schools, graduating from Lowell Trade School where he played baseball and hockey.
A resident of Hampstead for twenty-six years, Mr. Denis worked as a Salesman for Camper’s Inn on Route 125 in Kingston and previously was employed as a lab worker for Sealtest Ice Cream in Framingham, MA.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed gardening, yardwork, and was a Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Geraldine Mae (Gaiolas) Denis, a son, Craig R. Denis of Kingston; a granddaughter, Darian T. Denis of Kingston; a brother, Robert Denis of Florida; three sisters, Lorraine Desjardins of Nashua, Jeannette Brodeur of Florida and Claire Costa of Naples, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wed., April 9 at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow.

Shirley A. Hart
YARMOUTHPORT, MA – Shirley A. (Reisig) Hart, 90, of Yarmouthport, died Monday, April 7, 2008, while residing with her son and granddaughters family. She was the wife of the late Jacob C. Hart II.
Born in Brookline, MA, Mrs. Hart was raised and educated at Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy. She graduated in 1936.
Mrs. Hart lived in Wellesley and Natick before moving to Falmouth, with her family in 1952. She then moved to South Yarmouth in 1955. For 28 years, she was a resident, with many good friends, at the Lewis Gordon Senior Housing in South Dennis. She moved to Yarmouthport in 2007.
Mrs. Hart worked as manager of the cafeteria at Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School from 1957 until her retirement in 1980.
A communicant at Saint Pius Tenth Church in South Yarmouth, Mrs. Hart also enjoyed the beach, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Mrs. Hart is survived by three wonderful sons, Peter J. Hart and his wife, Kelley of Naples, FL, Charles A. Hart and his wife, Janet of Kingston, and Jeffrey J. Hart of Yarmouthport, MA; seven grandchildren, Brenda Hart Larkin and her husband Rob, Pamela Hart Mooney and her husband Steve, Teri Elliott-Hart and her husband Fred, Anne-Marie Hart Kannally and her husband Keith, Jacob C. Hart III and his wife Amy, Wayne Hart, and Julie Hart McCormick and her husband Peter; eleven great grandchildren, Kenny, Bobby, Reilly, Dylan, Paul, Sadie, Tyler, Paul, Abe, Chase, and River; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was held on April 14 in Saint Pius Tenth Church, Station Ave. South Yarmouth, MA. Interment was in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport, MA.

Rev. Wendell J. Irvine
RAYMOND – Reverend Wendell J. Irvine, 85, died on April 9, 2008, surrounded by family, at his home in Raymond.
He was born on March 13, 1923 in Moultonboro, the son of James Wendell and Isabel (Mitchell) Amabile. He was later adopted by James E. Irvine. Upon his mother’s passing in 1929, he and his sisters were placed in the Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, MA, and were subsequently placed into several foster homes. He was finally placed during his last three years of High school with the Rev. Clyde Martin and his wife Dorothy, who significantly influenced the direction of Wendell’s future.
After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1941, he entered Gordon College. In 1942, Wendell enrolled in the Navy’s cadet training program and in 1945 he graduated from Corpus Christi Naval Training Station. He went on to see action during WWII in the Pacific as a Patrol Plane Commander with a crew of fourteen. In 1945, while still in the service, Wendell married Laura (Irwin) in the Wilmington Methodist Church. After his discharge from the Navy, he continued his studies at Gordon and also attended the University of New Hampshire and Harvard.
Wendell began his career in the ministry in 1947 at the Brentwood Congregational Church. He served at the Kingston Congregational Church from 1951-1957, and at the Newton First Christian Church from 1957-1975. He then returned to the church in Kingston before retiring in 1988. He continued his ministry, in the community, serving as Pastor Emeritus right up until the time of his death. During this time, he conducted countless baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
His career as an educator began in the 1950’s at the Sanborn Seminary School. He also taught at the Emerson School for Boys from 1956-1970. The next five years he served as Principal of the Epping Elementary School. He continued teaching for many years in the Raymond school system and was a Trustee of the Sanborn Seminary School.
Wendell’s hobbies include oil painting, golfing, gardening, and reading. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Irene Jones, Emily Church, and Genevieve Irvine.
The family includes his wife of 63 years, Laura Irvine of Raymond; five children, Wendy J. (and husband David) Baker of Newton, William J. (and wife Jean) Irvine of Alton, Linda R. (and husband Bruce) Melville of Plaistow, Laura R. (and husband James) Stevens of Kingston, and Susan J. (and husband Harold) Poor of Merrimac, MA; ten grandchildren. and seven great grandchildren.
Memorial services with military honors will be held on Sat., April 19, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Kingston, located at 6 Church St. The Rev. Dr. W. David Thomas will officiate the service. Private internment services will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery. Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond, is handling the arrangements.
