Barbara D. Baker

FREMONT – Barbara D. Baker, 78, died on March 6, 2008, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, after a brief illness.

She was born on October 23, 1929 in Quincy, MA, the daughter of the late Daniel and Ellen (Carr) Phillips. She was raised in Boston and Medway, MA, and attended Katherine Gibbs Business School in Boston. She was predeceased by her husband George H. Baker Jr., who she married on November 11, 1951.

Before moving to Fremont in 1963, she was employed as a secretary for the OSS (now known as the CIA) in Washington DC. Barbara worked for the Fremont Post Office and had the distinction of being the first female mail carrier for the town. She was also employed for ten years as a secretary for John Hancock in North Hampton.

Barbara was very active in the town of Fremont. From 1993 until her retirement in 2005, she served as Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. She also served as Supervisor of the Checklist for 28 years, Library Trustee, and was instrumental in the building of the new public library. She was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader, and was a member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Fremont, and the Fremont Garden Club. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Medway, MA, and was an avid New England Patriots fan.

She is survived by three daughters, Denise and her husband James Livingston of Center Conway; Jane and her husband George Fryburg of Atkinson; and Laurie and her husband Fred Nason of Tamworth; five grandchildren; Valerie Hicks of Delaware; US Army Sgt. Andrew Fryburg of Atkinson; Daniel Fryburg of Atkinson; Jaccob Nason of Boston, MA; and Cody Nason of Boston, MA; her twin brother, Wallis Phillips of Ocala, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on March 16, at Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. The Rev. Earle Custer officiated the service. Burial will be held in the Village Cemetery, Fremont, in the spring.

Thomas J. Hennessey

METHUEN, MA – Thomas J. Hennessey, loving and devoted husband of Patricia Hennessey for 57 years, died on March 5, 2008 at the Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen, MA.

Mr. Hennessey was a life long resident of the Merrimack Valley and was born in Lawrence, MA, on July 26, 1930, to James and Patricia (Shea) Hennessey. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947. He went on to Boston College where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1951. He married Patricia Carney of Lawrence, MA, on December 29, 1951, prior to his military service. He served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Korea as a a radio operator for 14 months.

After his military service, he worked for IBM for 21 years as a Systems Analyst. He raised his family of nine children in Lawrence and North Andover. He began his own computer software company, Hennessey Associates in 1976, and worked there until his retirement years in 1990.

Mr. Hennessey was an avid pilot belonging to the Lawrence Flying Club and enjoying private flying and owning his own plane. He would take many trips with his family in his plane. A member of the North Andover Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the North Andover Democratic Club. Mr. Hennessey was also a member of St. Michael’s Parish in North Andover.

He and Patricia retired to Ossippee on Lake Ossippee for 17 years. He enjoyed visits from family and friends and the solitude of the lakes region. They moved back to Methuen in 2000 to be closer to family.

Thomas was blessed in life by a large and close family. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Carney), children Mary Sousa and husband Steve of Exeter, Kevin Hennessey and wife Maria of Southport, NC, Kathy Petralia and her husband Salvatore of North Andover, MA, Eileen Patterson and her husband Richard of Newton, Joan Korb and her husband Leif of Plaistow, Maureen Miner and her husband Rick of Turner Falls, MA, Ellen Feran and her husband Pat of Haverhill, MA, Thomas Hennessey and wife Maria of Laguna Nigel, CA, Michael Hennessey and wife Lisa of Plaistow. Thomas also has sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Tom’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the staff and the administration at the Nevins Nursing Home for the wonderful care and kindness given to him during his stay.

Tom’s Funeral Mass was celebrated on March 8, at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevins Nursing Home, 10 Ingalls Ct.
