Carmine Parrella, 90

PLAISTOW-Carmine Parrella, 90, of Plaistow, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, MA.

Born and educated in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Antonio and Carmela (Mannetta) Parrella, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during W.W.II. Following his discharge from the service, Mr. Parrella attended machinist school and was employed for many years at Sperry Gyroscope of Great Neck, NY.

A resident of Plaistow since 1998, Mr. Parrella moved here from Batavia, Ill. and was a former longtime resident of Plainview, Long Island, NY. He enjoyed music and was an accomplished violinist. He also enjoyed woodworking, and metal fabricating.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Fannie (Curatolo) Parrella, a daughter Camille Freitag of Sandown, a grandson, James Freitag and his wife Bethany of Dover, two sisters, Helen Rugnetta of Mineola, NY, and Connie Barth of Medford, NY, also several nieces and nephews.

His funeral was held on January 24, at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow. Burial was in Plaistow Cemetery.



James F. Woodbury, 70

RAYYMOND – James F. Woodbury, 70, of Margaret Ave., died suddenly at his home on January 16, 2008.

He was born on October 19, 1937 in Bridgewater, MA, the son of the late Frank L. and Ellen (Thompson) Woodbury. Formerly of North Springfield, VT, James grew up in Haverhill, MA, and attended Haverhill public schools. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from 1954-1958. He was formerly a member of the Main St. Christian Church (formerly known as the Disciples Church of Christ) and was a life member of the Amvets Post 147 in Haverhill, MA.

In 1977 he was married to Emily (Swansboro) and moved to Merrimac, MA. He has resided in Raymond since 1987.

James attended the Fremont Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Herd Welch Post #90. An avid football fan, he greatly enjoyed watching games on weekends and was a faithful supporter of the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed baseball and was a fan of the Red Sox.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Emily Woodbury of Raymond; one stepdaughter, Deborah Southgate of North Andover, MA; three stepsons, Robert W. Merritt of Newmarket, Steven R. Merritt of Merrimac, MA, and Brian T. Merritt of West Newbury, MA; five grandchildren; one sister, Ernestine Ferguson of Haverhill, MA; one brother, Ralph Woodbury of Huntington Beach, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held on January 19, at the West Congregational Church, Haverhill, MA. Burial will be held in the spring at Greenwood Cemetery in Haverhill, MA.
