    Atkinson Garden Club’s first meeting of 2014 began with a business meeting outlining many of its exciting upcoming projects including plans for Civic Beautification 2014, all around Atkinson, and the Flower Show, “A Tribute to National Parks,” June 14-15 at Kimball Public Library. Afterwards, Michelle Mensinger, NH Federation of Garden Clubs President, installed the officers, likening them to a bouquet of flowers, each with its own special place and importance in the whole design.     The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    The Granite State South Board of REALTOR®s Affiliates Raise Money for Veterans’ Charities. On March 4th, the GSSBR Affiliates Committee presented the Liberty House with a check for over $3,000 raised from the successfully sold out event GSSBR, Love and Laughter Comedy Night for Veterans’ Charities. The event was held on January 24th at the Atkinson Country Club.   • Michael Healey, 67

    Kingston, NH & Salem, MA — Michael Healey, 67, of Kingston, passed away unexpectedly, while surrounded by his loving family, at Exeter Hospital on May 29, 2014. He was the loving husband of Joan (Gambale) Healey, to whom he was married for 40 years. Michael was born on June 1, 1946 in Salem, Mass., to the late Thomas and Agnes (Cormier) Healey. Michael was a machinist for Sylvania for several years. He was a devoted father, who raised his two sons in Kingston, and was very active in their lives and all their sporting events. Michael enjoyed his beloved Red Sox and was one of the most dedicated fans. He was an avid motorcyclist. He adored his grandchildren and looked forward to his daily chocolate donut with little Mikey. Michael’s most recent love of his life was traveling to Aruba with his wife on a yearly basis. Michael will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan; his son, Patrick Healey and his wife, Tori Healey of Kingston; his son Ryan Healey and his wife, Sompong Healey of Barrington, N.H.; his brothers, Thomas, Dennis and Timothy Healey; his two grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Healey; best friends, Billy, Roger and Stanley; along with all his friends of Bill W. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Brian Healey; and his sister, Katie Healey.

    Hampstead, NH — Suzanne S. Martin, 68, of Hampstead, N.H., died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at her home in Hampstead, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Robert S. Martin of Hampstead; her mother, Eloise C (Skinner) Spradling of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Stacy M. Beckman of Atlanta, and Saraday M. Yockel of Raymond, N.H.; their husbands, Dill of Atlanta, and Philip of Raymond, N.H.; two granddaughters, Madilyn and Abigail of Raymond, N.H.; her brother, Dale Warren Spradling of The Woodlands, Texas; and many others whose lives were touched by her presence.
