    Atkinson Garden Club’s first meeting of 2014 began with a business meeting outlining many of its exciting upcoming projects including plans for Civic Beautification 2014, all around Atkinson, and the Flower Show, “A Tribute to National Parks,” June 14-15 at Kimball Public Library. Afterwards, Michelle Mensinger, NH Federation of Garden Clubs President, installed the officers, likening them to a bouquet of flowers, each with its own special place and importance in the whole design.     The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    The Granite State South Board of REALTOR®s Affiliates Raise Money for Veterans’ Charities. On March 4th, the GSSBR Affiliates Committee presented the Liberty House with a check for over $3,000 raised from the successfully sold out event GSSBR, Love and Laughter Comedy Night for Veterans’ Charities. The event was held on January 24th at the Atkinson Country Club.     Jonesboro, ME — Keith A. Bisson, known to most as Tyke, 55, of Jonesboro, Maine, died after a long battle with cancer on May 6, 2014. Keith leaves his wife, Penny (Geel) Bisson. In addition, Tyke leaves his son, Michael Bisson; his grandson, Joel Bisson; as well as a granddaughter, Valerie Bisson.

    Kingston, NH — Mary Louise (Meeks) Rodgers, longtime resident of Kingston, N.H., and recently of Haverhill, Mass., passed away on May 11, 2014 after a long illness. She was born on April 2, 1939, in Epping, N.H., the daughter of the late Samuel G. and Edna E. Meeks Sr. She graduated from Tilton High School with the class of 1957. She spent most of her life in Kingston where she was well-known and well-loved.

    Merrimac, MA — Sandy entered into eternal peace at home in Tennessee on April 11. She was born in Malden, Mass., and went to Haverhill and Pentucket schools. She worked at AT&T in North Andover, at the shoe shop and nursing homes in Haverhill, and lastly at Danville store in Danville, N.H. Sandy moved to Tennessee in 2011 to welcome the birth of her first grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Carr; father, Roland Gurley, and grandparents, Virginia and Edson Peck. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband of 31 years, John Wagoner; son, Brandon Wagoner and his wife, Shannon; grandson, Derek; parents, Robert and Elaine Leatham; aunts, Sharon (Arthur) Benjamin, Nancy (Ed) Hamilton, Gloria Crumel, Ruth McKewen, and Uncle Charlie Peck. Also, several cousins, nieces, nephews, loving in-laws and a host of longtime friends.
