---- — On December 16, Stratham’s Boston Post Cane was presented to Katherine M. Bullard. The Cane, along with a Proclamation from the Board of Selectmen, was presented by Selectman and State Representative, Timothy Copeland. The event was attended by several family members and Historical Society members.
On August 2, 1909, Edwin A. Grozier, Editor and Publisher of “The Boston Post”, sent letters and canes to the Chairmen of the Boards of Selectmen of towns exceeding a population of 500 in most New England states. The letter asked the Selectmen to become the trustees of the gold-topped ebony wood canes manufactured by J.F. Fradley and Company of New York. The letter then stipulated that the canes were to be presented to the oldest citizen of the town, and, upon the demise of the holder, to be transmitted to the next oldest citizen.
