Local Rotarian Climbs Mt. Everest to End Polio

— The trip of a lifetime for Nottingham resident Joe Pratt culminated at the summit of Mt. Everest in Katmandu, Nepal. Pratt, a Raymond Rotarian and Past District Governor of Rotary International, set out to climb the world’s tallest peak with a mission:  End Polio Now.

Joe, a pilot with Delta Airlines and an avid ice climber, went to Pakistan last October to participate in the National Immunization Days for polio eradication. That trip also included his wife Lori and fellow Rotarian Steve and Deb Puderbaugh, owners of the Raymond Animal Hospital. While working with the children in Pakistan, the plan was made to turn his anticipated climb of Mount Everest into a fundraiser to aid polio eradication from the world. So far, the Climbing Everest to End Polio effort has raised close to $10,000.

Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease. Polio (poliomyelitis) still strikes children mainly under the age of five. There are still four endemic countries where polio flourishes. After 25 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease.

The Raymond Area Rotary Club serves the towns of Raymond, Nottingham, Fremont, Epping, Deerfield, and Candia.  Anyone in the area interested in serving their local community please are welcome to join them.  They meet at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Ray-Fre Senior Center in downtown Raymond.  More information and donation forms can be found at www.raymondarearotary.org.

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
